Dan-Eivind Lid of SIAN (Stop the Islamisation of Norway) found dead in suspicious circumstances.

From News in English Norway

Police in Kristiansand launched a murder investigation Sunday after the body of anti-Islamist Dan-Eivind Lid was found in his apartment on Saturday with visible injuries. Lid was an active member of the anti-Islam organization SIAN and took part in its demonstrations against the alleged “Islamization” of Norway.

Police confirmed at a press conference Sunday evening that an investigation was underway. State broadcaster NRK reported that teams from the state police unit Kripos and police intelligence agency PST had been sent to Kristiansand.

Details remained sketchy and police wouldn’t comment on Lid’s injuries or what kind of evidence had already been gathered. He did confirm that police believe Lid “was subjected to a criminal act.”

The 48-year-old Lid was last seen alive on Friday. PST was called in because of Lid’s ties to the anti-Islamist group, which has recently held several demonstrations and provoked counter-demonstrators by burning or ripping up a copy of the Koran.

According to Netavissen, (courtesy of Google translate) the police have several clues but do not want to be specific at this early stage of the investigation. According to Dagbladet  (google again) certain people are being questioned and questioning will continue. Police attorney Henrik Bjugan Hegdahl says that more will be known after the post mortem. CCTV around his home is being examined.

Lars Thorsen, the leader of SIAN confirmed their long and close association and said that  based on his knowledge of Dan-Eivind Lid, he can see no visible motives other than a political motive. He described him as friendly and polite.

“There is nothing about his being that can explain that he should mess up in a situation where someone would find it too good to take his life”

However Mr Hegdahl says that so far  There are no concrete indications that the death is politically motivated.
