Europe, he writes, make no mistake, is under siege from Islam and lacks the leaders, and the military forces, to defend itself. Enough nonsense about “exporting democracy” to these Muslim lands; concentrate on defending democracy, that is on defending the threatened, advanced but at the moment still uncertain and confused West: the forces of Islam, from the Muslim East, and now as well from within our lands, threatens our existence. Who could have imagined, in 1933, what that comical little corporal would become?
