Four men go on trial for sexually abusing girls in early 2000s

It appears that the earlier reporting restriction allows this report from the Rotherham Advertiser. The jury was discharged last week.

FOUR men accused of sexually abusing two teenage girls in and around Meadowhall have gone on trial.

Amin Aslam (36), of Leatham Avenue, Masbrough, Yasser Iqbal Hussain (35), of Norborough Road, Tinsley, Azad Akram Raja (35), of Adney Street, Sheffield, and Faisal Hussain (32), of Lovetot Road, Kimberworth, went on trial today (Monday) at Sheffield Crown Court accused of 12 child sex offences.

Prosecutor Ms Jayne Beckett said the case involved the sexual abuse of two schoolgirls in the early 2000s when they were as young as 13 and the defendants were aged between 15 and 21. The girls hung around various places in Sheffield, including Meadowhall, where they met older Asian boys and men.

Ms Beckett said: “The two girls were friends and would hang around areas of Sheffield like Meadowhall.

“They would meet up at various locations with older men and those older men would try and take advantage of them sexually.

Ms Beckett said that Girl A first met Aslam aged 13 when she was babysitting for a woman. That woman would often return home in the company of “Asian males”, she said.

  • Aslam is accused of one count of rape and one count of indecent assault between April 2001 and April 2004, against a girl aged under 16 (referred to as Girl A).
  • Raja is accused of three counts of rape and two counts of indecent assault against the same girl, during the same timeframe.
  • Yasser Hussain is accused of one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault against the same girl, during the same timeframe.
  • Faisal Hussain faces two counts of indecent assault against a second girl (Girl B) between January and June 2003.

The accused deny all the offences and the trial continues
