That is, he got that old-time religion …Islam. He took fully to heart the belief system that hitherto he and his parents had nominally or not-particularly-fervently practised.

And as an entirely predictable result of becoming deeply Islamically religious, he went off to Syria to wage Jihad, to “slay and be slain in the cause of allah”.

Well: he’s gone. He’s not in Australia any more, and he will *never* be returning. We are well rid of him.
