This article was written to honour and commemorate the birth of Lt. Colonel John Henry Patterson, DSO (10 November 1867 – 18 June 1947).
I had the pleasure of living and working in East Africa for 16 years. Our children spent much of their childhood there. As a family we were often on Safari, meaning that we would take our jeep, Land Rover, or Land Cruiser, pack up our tents, store food and camping equipment and go out into the bush of wild East Africa. more>>>

This story with its rich connections from the past right through to the present would make a far better story and movie than the story of man eating lions. He was the indispensible man, being at the right place at the right time. You could make a strong case that the state of Isreal might not exist but for his actions and influence.
