Holding the door for, giving up your seat to, walking on the side nearest the pavement when with, a woman, all the things young males may have had imparted to them by Emily Post or their mothers — these are things that are not only no longer taught, but in the New Improved State of Everything, apparently to be deplored as signs of dangerous “sexism” — a word that, along with “racism,” is a club with which to clobber those who don’t get with the program, whatever that program may be. I don’t believe it. In the American South, still, when you hear or overhear someone say, automatically, because he can’t help it,”yes, ma’am,” are you passing wroth, or are you pleased?
A discussion at Madame Figaro, in French, here.
The idiotic research, distinguishing “hostile” and “benevolent” (but still bad) “sexism,” is discussed here.
