Somali-born British man arrested over anti-Semitic terror attack named as Essa Suleiman
The suspect in the Golders Green terror attack has been named as Essa Suleiman, a Somali-born British man who was jailed for stabbing a police officer and his dog.
Suleiman, who lived at one stage in Camberwell, south east London, was arrested on Wednesday after two Jewish men were stabbed near a synagogue in north London.
The 45-year-old had previously been jailed indefinitely for stabbing PC Neil Sampson in January 2008. Mr Sampson required five months off work after he was stabbed repeatedly in the head, face and leg with what was believed to be a bread knife. His dog Anya was struck in the chest, Swindon Crown Court heard.
A judge ruled that Suleiman should serve at least four and a half years for grievous bodily harm and only be considered for release when he was no longer a risk to the public.
He was jailed under a imprisonment for public protection (IPP) sentence, which force dangerous offenders to serve a minimum tariff before their release is considered by a parole board. IPPs sentenced were introduced by Labour in 2005 before they were abolished by the coalition government in 2012.
Andy Marsh, the Asst Chief Constable of Wiltshire Police at the time, described Suleiman as “a very dangerous man”.
Suleiman had also been referred to the Government’s counter-extremism Prevent programme in 2020, but his case was closed later that year.
Hours after the double stabbing on Wednesday, Sir Mark Rowley, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said the suspect had a “history of serious violence and mental health issues”.
He was born in Somalia, came to this country as a child, and presumably became a citizen, or acquired a British passport later.
Sir Keir Starmer is under mounting pressure to take tougher action to protect British Jews, having been accused of “weakness” by Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister.
The Prime Minister was heckled with shouts of “traitor” and “Keir Starmer, Jew harmer” when he visited the site of the stabbing on Thursday.

Keir Starmer is leading the way for Britain to be reduced to a group of Sharia law second and third class citizens. He is a laughing stock of a leader in the western world. Good luck to the Britain the world used to know. It seems they are now in a race to the bottom with Spain.
