Forget “interesting times.” We live in malicious times. Bringing Turkey into NATO has its serious problems. The Kurds (aka Medes) are 4,000 years old; the Turks took over Anatolia c the 11th century.
The Kurds have the greatest legitimacy in re-restablishing their state, with new facts on the ground, pushing all the way to the Mediterranean. We are backing Turkey because it is the bully of the block; but by rights we should be backing the Kurds in their renewal of full statehood.
