latest toll – 22 people, including some children killed and 59 wounded

Police said the attacker died after detonating explosives shortly after 10:33 pm (2133 GMT) at Manchester Arena, which has the capacity to hold 21,000 people. Children were among the dead, 

“We believe, at this stage, the attack last night was conducted by one man,” Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins told reporters. “The priority is to establish whether he was acting alone or as part of a network.

“The attacker… died at the arena. We believe the attacker was carrying an improvised explosive device which he detonated causing this atrocity.”

According to the Mirror  US media reported that British authorities have tentatively identified the suspect, who died in the blast which targeted fans as they left the gig. 

The Wall Street Journal in the US is reporting that police may have already identified a suicide bomber responsible for the blast.The newspaper said they have found “remains” of the bomber at the scene

If the Chief Constable is confident to say ‘he’ then the murderer is male; I did wonder if the bomber might have been a woman, the better able to get into the foyer under the guise of ‘collecting my children’. Security is quite tight at venues now. But the exits as people are leaving…
