Let’s all Wear the Hijab!

Edit: Esmerelda just let me know he actually said this in 2017. It’s new to me, though– maybe it’s new to you, too.

Austria’s president, Alexander Van der Bellen, in a thoughtful stand for “freedom,” suggested that one day soon all women might be asked to wear the hijab– just to show solidarity, of course.

Nothing says liberty quite like everybody doing the same thing on command.

Any woman can wear a headscarf. And if this continues, which brings me to my next question. With Islamophobia becoming increasingly widespread, the day will come when we will have to ask all women to wear a headscarf. All women! As solidarity with those who do so for religious reasons.

  1. And what did he propose to do if a large number of women – in particular, those who fled from places like Iran precisely because they hated the hideous rag that they were forced to wear on pain of beatings, rape, imprisonment – told him that they had zero intention of donning the Slave Rag???
Incidentally, what has he been doing and saying since, after making that appalling proposal?

  2. When can we expect this urbane gentleman to book his circumcision to show solidarity with our Jewish friends and neighbour’s.?
