London Bridge attack: ‘Four held’ as police raid flats in Barking ‘in connection with terror attack’

Piecing together other news 12 people in total have been arrested. How many will be charged and convicted is another matter; police are slowly releasing those arrested last week over Manchester.

Metropolitan Police have raided flats in east London “in connection with a terror attack at London Bridge which left seven people dead”.

Images posted on social media showed a police cordon around flats in Kings Road, Barking, shortly after 7am on Sunday. Officers placed the Elizabeth Fry flats on lockdown shortly after 7am before several men were pictured laying face down and handcuffed in the street.

Tara Milan, 24, told the newspaper that four people were detained in the flats and that one man tried to escape armed police. She said: “I saw them bringing them out of the flat opposite, around 7am. One man tried to flee and they shot him outside my house. They put him in an ambulance and then the others in a police van.”

Neighbour, Damien Pettit, told Sky News that police had showed him a picture of the suspect, who he thought looked like one of his neighbours. Mr Pettit said the man was an “affable person”, with young children, who had lived in the block for three years and used to work for TfL.

A neighbour told Mail Online that he knew the man who lived at the address police are thought to have targeted. He said: ‘I used to play table tennis with him in the lobby of the apartment. I can’t believe it. He approached me yesterday and asked me where I hired a van recently. He said he needed one as he was going to move house. He was acting strange yesterday. He was being nicer than normal.”
