London – Six dead – three terrorists dead, shot by police.

I went to sleep at 2.30 am hoping that the report of seven deaths was an exaggeration; I woke at 4am to read that there were six deaths but that all three terrorists were not running amok, but were dead by police marksmen. It is now known that they were dead within 10 minutes of starting their jihad. The Telegraph has what I believe to be some of the better coverage.

Six people killed and 48 injured.

Three attackers were shot dead by police in the attack on London Bridge and Borough Market. Police said they believed there were no more than three attackers.

The London Ambulance Service said 48 people had been taken to five hospitals across the capital and a number of other people were treated at the scene.

Bursts of gunfire had echoed through the streets – likely from armed police – and at least three blasts rang out as police performed controlled explosions.

One picture from the Borough Market area showed a man lying on the ground with canisters apparently strapped to him. Police later said the men were wearing hoax suicide vests.

I worked in Borough for three years in my youth. I walked past the Wheatsheaf and crossed London Bridge twice a day. But as you know I am a Londoner with roots four centuries deep.

Bursts of gunfire had echoed through the streets – likely from armed police – and at least three blasts rang out as police performed controlled explosions.

Police say the attack lasted around eight minutes before armed officers attended the scene and took down the assailants. One eyewitness spoke of the men shouting “this is for Allah” as they stabbed indiscriminately.

Police believe three male suspects were involved in Saturday’s London Bridge attacks, but say more work needs to be done to establish if they were alone. None of the men have so far been identified…
