Long-awaited Casey grooming gang review links illegal migration with exploitation of British girls

From the Sun

A DAMNING review into rape gangs will directly link illegal migration with the exploitation of British girls, The Sun can reveal.

The Home Office is expected to publish the long-awaited National Audit on Group-Based Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse next week.

A source familiar with the report said its author, Baroness Louise Casey, specifically links illegal migration with the violence perpetrated against vulnerable girls.

The Sun understands there are fears in the Home Office that knowledge of the link between undocumented arrivals and grooming gangs could trigger more civil unrest.

The Home Office today refused to deny the involvement of illegal migration in the Casey report. A government spokesperson said: “Nothing is more important than protecting vulnerable children, and we are determined to crack down on vile grooming gangs once and for all…”

The Casey review was tasked with building a “national picture of what is known about current group-based child sexual exploitation” and to “identify local and national trends”. It will also “provide an assessment of what is known about the demographics of grooming gangs and their victims, including ethnicity”

It won’t be the same as the National Inquiry that many of us want to see,and that would inquire into, amongst other interesting factors, why, who, when and how the cover up of these crimes occured.

And from the Guido Fawkes Order-order blog

The Casey review into rape gangs is expected to drop next week. After Labour broke its pledge to publish the review in May – it was initially supposed to come out in August – safeguarding minister Jess Phillips apologised and said Casey had requested a “short extension. It is now all but finished…

The National Audit on Group-Based Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse has four aims in its terms of reference:

  • Build a national picture of what is known about current group-based child sexual exploitation, to identify local and national trends, to assess the quality of data available and review police understanding of this crime.

  • Review data linked to group-based CSE in other relevant partner agencies (this could include, for example, criminal justice agencies, local authority services, and multi-agency partnerships).

  • Provide an assessment of what is known about the demographics of grooming gangs and their victims, including ethnicity.

  • Conduct a review into the cultural and societal drivers for this type of offending and the motivations and characteristics of grooming gang offending, to provide an evidence-base for prevention, early intervention and disruption.

Sources say the plan as it currently stands is to publish the review on Wednesday after PMQs. The publication date was moved from Tuesday. This suggests Downing Street is concerned about its contents and doesn’t want to be asked about it at Prime Minister’s Questions…

For Labour to dodge questions in this manner would be irregular. The review should be presented to Parliament before Wednesday afternoon…

Further

Heated discussions over timing and leaks have pushed forward the publication from Wednesday afternoon to Monday. The report is due to recommend a statutory national inquiry into rape gangs. Keir Starmer will not be in the country…

Starmer is set to miss PMQs on Wednesday. There is a G7 Leaders summit in Alberta, Canada with events from 15 to 17 June. Ending on Tuesday…

For Starmer to skip town for the first time in weeks as Labour publishes an explosive rape gangs review which it held is a stitch-up. He should return early and face scrutiny…

I’ll keep an eye out for it.  Baroness Casey is doing well.
