Manchester Arena bombing trial live: Updates from Old Bailey as Hashem Abedi found GUILTY of every charge he faced

From the Manchester Evening News.

The brother of the Manchester Arena bomber has been found guilty of every charge he faced having helped his brother commit ISIS-inspired mass murder.

A jury convicted Hashem Abedi, 22, after less than five hours of deliberation at the end of a seven week trial at the Old Bailey in London.

The panel of three women and eight men found Abedi guilty of 22 counts of murder; one count of attempted murder concerning those who were injured but survived the blast; and conspiring with his brother to cause an explosion.

He now faces life in prison. May he rot there.

The judge, Mr Justice Jeremy Baker, has told the jurors he will adjourn sentence to date in the future.

He wants to give the absent defendant a chance to make submissions before he passes sentence.

Mr Justice Jeremy Baker said sentencing was ‘a little way off’.

He asked the prosecutor to make some enquiries about whether anyone – families – wished to attend the sentencing hearing and ‘perhaps give evidence’.

The judge told the jurors he wanted to give both the prosecution and the absent defendant opportunities to make submissions before he passes sentence. He said they were all welcome to attend that hearing but he said he would think no less of them if they decided against it.
