Met Police officer attached to north London school admits child sexual offences

This is just one of far too many cases recently of policemen in London’s force committing sex crimes. Why I post this one is the age of the girls, his role as a Safer Schools officer attached to a secondary school and the similarity to the case of this officer  in Yorkshire which has just faded from the news…..

A serving Met officer is facing jail after pleading guilty to child sexual offences – including four counts of sexual activity with a teenager. PC Hussain Chehab, 22, was arrested when the family of a 16-year-old told police she had ‘been in a relationship’ with him, which they believed began in 2019 when she was 15. Taken alone this could, just could have been a case of two teenagers with raging hormones, albeit the girl under age and the boy (at 19, and before he joined the police) old enough to know better. But it was only the beginning.

The cop had been placed on restricted duties in a non-public-facing role following his initial arrest, but was suspended from duty when he was further arrested on 28 October.

A number of indecent images were found on Chehab’s devices after he was taken into custody on 24 August, 2021. . Some of the image offences were committed while Chehab was a ‘safer schools’ officer at an Enfield secondary. Police said his “sickening” offending was not linked to his role.

Messages between Chehab and a 14-year-old girl ‘engaging in sexual communication’ were later discovered, and she provided evidence that they had entered into a sexual relationship in 2019 – when she was just 14.

On Tuesday, Chehab pleaded guilty at Wood Green Crown Court to four counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13-15 between 1 March 2019 and September 2019. He also admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of a child and one count of engaging in sexual communication with a child. No verdict was recorded in a further four counts of making indecent photographs of a child and the judge ordered they be left to lie on file.

Chehab has been released on bail for sentencing at the same court on Friday, 17 March.

Judge John Dodd told him: ‘You’ve admitted some extremely serious offences. I’m granting you bail but you must prepare yourself over the next few weeks for a prison sentence.’

Meanwhile, an accelerated misconduct process ‘has been initiated and will be held as quickly as possible’.

The force has named Chehab’s crimes ‘sickening’ and say their thoughts ‘are with the young girls who he exploited and took advantage of for his own sexual gratification’. ‘While no evidence has been found linking any of Chehab’s offending to his role, we are engaging with our local schools, community forums and independent advisory groups to reassure them following the damage his actions will have caused.’

At least the Met didn’t use Chehab as their poster boy for a diversity drive like West Yorkshire Police did their officer.

There is such a severe reporting restriction on that case of 16 men arrested and charged in 2019 that their trials and results have never been published, and even information that was in the public domain at the Crown Court cannot be repeated elsewhere.
