Munich police warn of imminent terror threat

From the BBC and Sky News

Police in the German city of Munich have warned of a planned terror attack and have asked people to avoid crowds.

The police tweeted that the city’s main station and Pasing station had been evacuated and said trains were no longer stopping there.

“Current indications show that a terror attack is being planned in Munich. Please avoid gatherings of people and the Munich and Pasing train stations,” police said in the tweet.

Munich newspaper TZ reported that police believed several groups of attackers could strike at different locations in the city. Armed police have cordoned off the main station and asked people nearby to leave the area, TZ reported

Torbin Ostermann, a German journalist in Munich, told Sky News: “It’s just now 2016 and people are celebrating the New Year like nobody seems to know about the terrorist warning. There is nobody in the main station at the moment, but the atmosphere in Munich is like a normal new year. It’s a bit weird though that we have a terrorist warning and people are firing off their fireworks.”
