Muslim population of England smashes three million mark for first time ever, figures reveal

ENGLAND’S Muslim population has smashed the three million mark in 2019.

Some parts of London are now almost 50 per cent Islamic, according to analysis from the Office for National Statistics. If current trends continue the areas could become majority Muslim within ten years.

Official ONS figures for 2018/19 that were released in December show that there are 3,194,791 Muslims living in England, with over a third aged under 16.

English Muslims make up the vast majority of the 3,363,210 currently living in England, Scotland and Wales. They make up 5.9 per cent of the 2018 English population (55.16 million). Which I believe is a tipping point on one of the scales of hijirah progress. 2018 figures show that London was home to nearly 1.26 million Muslims, making up 14.2 per cent of the capital’s population.

The Muslim Council of Britain has been approached for comment.

While the ONS said the new estimates could not be used to assess local populations, the 2011 census report said that ‘Muslims tended to be concentrated in particular areas of England. 

‘In over half of local authorities the proportion of the population who were Muslim was under one per cent. In over three-quarters of areas it was under six per cent.

‘The areas with the highest proportion of Muslims were in London with the boroughs of Tower Hamlets and Newham having 34.5 per cent and 32.0 per cent respectively. 

‘There were several areas outside London with proportions higher than 20 per cent including Blackburn with Darwen in the North West (27.0 per cent ), Bradford in Yorkshire and the Humber, Luton in East of England, Slough in South East, and Birmingham in the West Midlands.’
