“Rounding up” And Lying By Addition

Over at www.care2.com Mindy Townsend, in my opinion, tells a lie – a great big whopper of a lie – but she slips it into her text so deftly that it will settle into the consciousness of many of her readers like a subliminal message in a movie or a TV programme is supposed to do. She lied by tacking an additional idea that wasn’t Mr. Trump’s onto something that Mr. Trump never said in the hope that her lie will be remembered as what he actually said or meant. In other words, she lied by addition. Don’t be surprised, it’s actually a very common way of lying amongst the hard-of-thinking people that care2.com appeals to; most loony lefty journalists do it all the time and Ms Townsend is no exception.

Here’s what she wrote at http://www.care2.com/causes/why-donald-trump-scares-me.html:

“…Trump’s supporters are the most hostile to anyone they perceive as an outside ethnic group, and rounding up an ethnic group and registering them really just takes this type of thinking to its logical conclusion.” [My bold emphasis.]

“Rounding up.” Yep, you read that correctly. That’s not actually what The Donald said, nor is it what he was advocating, is it? What he actually said, and this is a matter of public record, was:

“…total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

When it comes to fictional databases and mythical “rounding up”, he said, and again this is a matter of public record:

“I didn’t suggest a database – a reporter did.”

So, despite Mindy Townsend’s blatantly dishonest assertion, Mr. Trump also didn’t suggest registering anybody on any database. But, for the likes of Mindy Townsend the truth is a fairly elastic commodity, in my opinion.

The reporter that invented this idea wasn’t actually Yahoo News’s resident left-wing maniac, Hunter Walker, who went out of his way, in an interview with The Donald, to attempt to discredit Mr. Trump and create a controversy by harping on and on about the database idea as if Mr Trump had really said it. The Donald, not wanting to appear to be too rude, treated the suggestions from Walker seriously and dignified the lunacy with a reply:

“We must defeat Islamic terrorism and have surveillance, including a watch list, to protect America.”

In an attempt to show Walker up as being an addle-brained lefty idiot (which he is in my opinion) Mr. Trump also said:

“We’re going to have to – we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely.”

Later, an NBC (oh, quelle surprise) reporter weighed in with the same rubbish as Walker had tried and Mr. Trump replied

“We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.”

and, speaking in between campaign stops in Iowa, when questioned by a rather silly, trendy-lefty reporter who just wanted to jump on Walker’s bandwagon:

“There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases.”

Yet reporters keep right on about the databases that Mr. Trump never advocated and care2.com and Mindy Townsend get away with telling huge untruths about some fictional “rounding up” that Ms Townsend conjured into being from the unsavoury depths of her sleazy imagination. Of course, The Donald, all the dishonest reporters who question him and we, the general public, all already know that some such databases, more than likely containing the details of many potentially terrorist Muslim US citizens, probably already exist – if they don’t then heads should roll in the intelligence services – but Townsend’s “rounding up” is a fiction of her own inventing. For her, any stick will do to beat a nag with.

Rush Limbaugh had the right of it when he said, on his show:

“Trump has not suggested it. So the reporter’s not asking a question bouncing off anything Trump has said. It’s just a question thrown at Trump, and it comes to him in the midst of autograph seekers and fans and supporters wanting to meet him after his performance is finished.”

Mr. Limbaugh also said that:

“He [Mr. Trump] has not confirmed a database. He has not confirmed registration of Muslims. He’s changed the question.”

At no point has Mr. Trump advocated “rounding up” the Muslim citizens of the USA, but Ms Townsend, and all the other left-wing useful idiots, never let the truth stand in the way of a convenient lie. What emerges from all this is that The Donald has been the victim of a classic left-wing media sting operation designed solely to allow the likes of barmy Bernie and hollow-hearted Hillary to play the ‘I-am-outraged-and-morally-superior’ card. Fortunately, it seems not to have worked in quite the way that I suspect various Democrat PACs had hoped that it would.

How, in the name of all that’s holy, the disingenuous Mindy Townsend, and many others in the enemedia, managed to spin Donald Trump’s remarks into making it look like he wanted to treat all Muslim citizens of the USA like enemy aliens, like the citizens of Japanese origin in WWII, I really don’t know.

What Mindy Townsend proves in her piece at care2.com is that not only can one lie by omission and commission, but also by addition. Just add some words, like “rounding up”, onto some other words that someone didn’t say, or did say in some cases, and then add it all together as one big lie and pass it off as the truth – lying by addition. It’s destined to be a great weapon in the left-wing press’s armoury and now that Townsend has blazed the trail I’m sure that we will see it deployed much more often.

Perhaps Mindy Townsend’s next lie, the losing, loony left’s next lie, will be about Mr. Trump wanting to set up internment camps for Muslim citizens to facilitate the “rounding up”. Maybe some useful journalists’ anonymous ‘source’ has already sent out the maps of where these are to be sited – probably on mocked-up Trump headed notepaper. Who knows what her febrile imagination will come up with next? Given that any contact with her, and the others like her, leaves one feeling soiled, who would even want to know?
