Five million ethnic Arabs live in Khuzistan, in southwestern Iran, just next to Iraq. That’s where most of Iran’s oilfields can be found (and in Saudi Arabia, the nation’s minority — Shi’a — live in the very place, Al-Hasa or the Eastern Province, where all of that country’s oilfields are located).

 

The Iranians call them Arabs. The Arabs call them that too, or used to do so. Now they are calling them, and they are calling themselves, the “Ahwazi people.” Perhaps that won’t take off, and they’ll try “the Khuzistanian people.” But the desired effect will be the same: a Separate People, who Need A Homeland. Thus will the Arabs, not content with their 22 Arab states, and not content with that hoped-for “Palestine” for the “Palestinian people,” try for yet another Arab entity, this one to be for the “Ahwazi people” or, depending on how many salute when they run both terms up two flagpoles, the “Khuzistanian people.” The Iranians won’t be happy.
