I couldn’t join my friends of March for England at Tavistock Square to lay flowers on the anniversary this year but Cliff has given me permission to use two of his photographs.
As well as their flowers and others laid by members of the public there were formal wreaths from the families, London Transport and other organisations. In previous years there has been a wreath from the doctors of the British Medical Association and although I cannot read the other message cards in the photograph below I cannot imagine that one of those wreaths isn’t from them.
If you are don’t remember the details of that Thursday in 2007 Muslim suicide bombers set off bombs on three London Underground tube trains and a No 30 bus. That exploded in Tavistock Square right outside the HQ of the British Medical Association. The doctors who were attending a conference there that day set up a field hospital in their courtyard and must have saved several lives.
As usual the flowers were laid with sincere dignity and decorum. Next year I must manage my diary with more forethought.
