Police have now named the truck driver who mowed down 84 people along the famed Promenade des Anglais after Bastille Day fireworks in Nice. Mohammad Lahouaiej Bouhlel, a 31-year old Tunisian, was not on the French police terror watch list but had been arrested earlier this year for domestic violence, then released.
We now know, for example, that Bouhlel rented the refrigerator truck two days before he struck, showing premeditation. French media are also reporting that he was only stopped when an unarmed passerby jumped onto the truck and tried to wrest the steering wheel from his hands. Bouhlel shot him with a handgun before police finally opened fire.

France has tighter gun control laws than Chicago, so the brave citizen who tried to stop Bouhlel was unarmed. He was thrown to the street after Bouhlel shot him.
I guess if you were a Democrat on Capitol Hill, today you would be calling for greater truck control.
Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump cancelled a press conference to announce his vice-presidential pick, and said, “This is war.” He tweeted, “My prayers and condolences to the victims and families of the terrible tragedy in Nice, France. We are with you in every way.” Mrs. Clinton countered that the U.S. has to be careful about sending more ground troops to fight ISIS, “because that is exactly what ISIS wants from its enemies.”
Once again, you have two very contrasting responses to dramatic world events that clearly show the character and policy inclinations of the two candidates.
Trump foreign policy and national security advisor Dr. Walid Phares put flesh on the bones of a Trump administration counter-terrorism strategy.
He told FoxNews that as president, Trump’s first step would be “making sure the enemy in the region is defeated.” Then, to prevent future waves of jihadi terrorism, he recommended “finding allies within these communities” and using non-governmental organizations to “cut off the ideological input into the mind” of the next generation of potential terrorists.
“The Obama administration unfortunately has not accepted the principle that we are fighting an ideology,” Dr. Phares explained. “That is what Mr. Trump is talking about.”
Trump advisor Newt Gingrich was even more specific. “Western civilization is in a war. Frankly, we should test every person here of a Muslim background, and if they believe in Sharia, they should deport them. Sharia is incompatible with Western civilization.”
He went on: “Modern Muslims, who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door. But we need to be relentless finding out who our enemies are.”
I have no doubt those statements, or my own call for U.S. Customs to question foreign Muslims arriving in the United States if they believe in the supremacy of Sharia, will make leftists scream.
We did the same thing during the Cold War and during the fight against Nazi Germany, two other periods in recent history when American faced an ideological opponent.
Ideology matters. When a Muslim in France shouts “Allahu-akbar” while smashing holiday revelers with a refrigerator truck or gunning down innocents at a nightclub, he is not just mouthing meaningless words. He is committing murder in the name of his ideology.
No, this is not a “war on Islam.” Having spent much of the past thirty-five years reporting on and from the Middle East, I have no doubt that the “modern Muslims” Gingrich talks about far outnumber the proponents of Sharia.
Most Muslims do not speak Arabic and cannot read or understand the Koran. But for those who do, that’s where the problem begins.
Christians and Jews believe our Bible is the inspired word of God. It was compiled by men over a period of many centuries as an inspiration for right and just behavior.
We do not literally apply the punishments of the Book of Leviticus. That stopped about 3000 years ago, when King David reigned in Israel.
Muslims are taught to believe that the Koran is “literal revelation,” that is, spoken by Allah into the ears of one man, Mohammad, over a period of twenty-three years. The fact that Mohammad was known to be illiterate and unschooled, supposedly made the revelation all the more “miraculous.”
Children are taught to recite Koranic verses at an early age. It is taught in every mosque, every week. So when it says, “kill the infidels wherever you find them,” or “do not make friends of Christian and Jew,” Muslims take these commandments very seriously, especially if they are taught to focus on such verses.
The proponents of Sharia, from the Muslim Brotherhood to ISIS to the Islamic State of Iran and beyond, all believe they hold the key to Islamic purity, and that only they are properly applying the commandments of their Prophet, as set out in the Koran and in the hadiths, Mohammad’s sayings. They share the belief that Islam will triumph by the sword and that they will be the masters of a worldwide Islamic caliphate.
This is the jihadi ideology that has declared war on us and that we must combat. So far, our policies just aren’t working.
Since January 2015, jihadi terrorists have carried out ten terror attacks in France. They slaughtered five hundred innocent people in the last five attacks alone. The French response has been a bit more policing, a bit more intelligence, but no concerted effort to stop radicalization, whether online, overseas, or at specific mosques.
By refusing to strike at the core of the problem, jihadi ideology, Mrs. Clinton has shown she will be a repeat of Obama, limply reacting to every attack by blaming lax gun controls and Islamophobes for inciting innocent Muslims to violence.
As Trump advisors Walid Phares and Newt Gingrich have suggested, there is a more intelligent response, a strategy that finds allies within the Muslim world who will help turn off the tap of the vicious ideology that fuels the terrorist fires. It’s time to stop riding the tiger and defeat him.

What part of Dar al Islam vs Dar al Harb, al wala wa al bara, and Surah 48.29, not to mention the multiple passages that teach Muslims never, never, never to permanently and sincerely befriend/ ally with non-Muslims, and the very well documented mohammedan doctrines of deceit, and the meaning of the Treaty of Hudaybiyya, do people still refuse to understand??
You cannot find allies among people who have been trained to be users and deceivers. Who are waging war on you and one of whose major weapons is deceit.
Just. don't. bother. Y ou. will. be. screwed.
Time to cut the Gordian knot. time to STOP trying to find friends and allies in the snake-pit that is the dar al Islam, steeped in suspicion and aggression. Just. STOP. Stop trying to make friends with people who will smile, and lie… and then turn round and stab you in the back.
Focus on our fellow infidels. Prioritise alliance with non-Muslim countries; support to the hilt those, like india and Israel, Philippines and Thailand, that are struggling to deal with violent mohammedan fifth columnists. Close the damn borders against ALL further ingress of identifiable / declared Mohammedans. Turf out all non-citizen Mohammedans. Surprise search all the known mosques and raze to the ground any inside of which anything at all, er, 'dodgy' is discovered (and that includes hidden basements and false floors and false ceilings), and any that have been regularly attended by a Muslim who has either plotted, or attempted, or in fact carried out a jihad terror attack. As for the rest: dust off all those old laws about Exile and Outlawry and prepare to use them on Mohammedans, nominally possessed of infidel-country citizenship -a citizenship that for many is treated with utter contempt, except when it can be used as a tactical and temporary advantage – who are discovered to be pushing sharia/ plotting jihad or who attempt or in fact carry out or aid and abet / are complicit with acts of jihad and acts – such as threatening or in fact murdering apostates and 'blasphemers' – that contravene Infidel law.
Got Muslims? Got jihad. That's the long and the short of it. The jihadi assassins are the shock troops of the Ummah and the Ummah or mohammedan mob, the allah gang, the Muslim 'community' is the nurturing, sheltering sea within which the jihadis swim and from which they continually emerge – with its full consent and approval. If NO Mulsims had been permitted to enter and settle in France, this mass murder by truck in Nice simply would not and could not have happened.
