The Coastal States of America vs. The Middle States of America: The Story of the Second American Civil War

by Howard Rotberg

Everybody knows that the dice are loaded
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed
Everybody knows the war is over
Everybody knows the good guys lost
Everybody knows the fight was fixed
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich
That’s how it goes
Everybody knows

Everybody knows that the boat is leaking
Everybody knows that the captain lied
Everybody got this broken feeling
Like their father or their dog just died
Everybody talking to their pockets
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
And a long-stem rose
Everybody knows

– “Everybody Knows” Leonard Cohen

In early 2021, the American Supreme Court ruled that Donald Trump and Mike Pence had been defrauded from an election victory by the use of Dominion Election software and pauses in counting where ballots for Biden were dumped into the system, and the prevention of Republican observers from seeing ballots, along with various other nefarious tricks, that seemed to be concentrated in several “swing” states.

BLM and Antifa and thousands of protesters were already massed in nearly every city over 100,000 in population, and weapons and incendiary devices had been handed out. Within two days, America was on fire. The American military was called in.

Everybody knew that a civil war was starting, and it lasted for three years.

On the one hand it started as a war between the coastal elites and the conservative heartland. On the other, it was a war between those with traditional values and loyalties and those who were allies in the leftist-Islamist-Globalist agenda.

By July, 2021, Black Lives Matter had taken over most of poorer sections of the main American cities, such as Chicago, Detroit, New York, Minneapolis,

Seattle, San Francisco, Houston, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Cleveland. Police had been defunded and the social workers who took their place, abandoned their work. In Los Angeles, Phoenix, Dallas, Miami and some smaller cities, Hispanics joined the war on the side of the Federal Government and opposed the BLM attempt to rule them.

Kamala Harris gave up the Vice-Presidency of the CSA to become president of the Black Lives Districts, and she was replaced by Elizabeth Warren. Warren became President of the CSA shortly thereafter when the Court ruled that Biden’s health was too poor to continue as President of the CSA while Trump remained President of the MSA.

Many American mayors and governors decided that it was good politics and would enhance their power if they came out in support of BLM’s conquest of some of the central cities, even though they were physically within the MSA and the Democrats carried on with their conquest of those “liberal cities”, which were solid supporters of the Democrats

By early 2024, most Americans were sick of the fighting and the death toll of over 500,000 people, some from political terrorism, some from the massive increase in crime resulting from the defunding of police forces, but most from the biological weapons. The Chinese made no secret of backing North Korea’s introduction of a much more dangerous coronavirus and John Kerry-linked Iranian Hezbollah operatives were behind the assassination of President Trump. Vice-President Pence survived and became President of the Middle States of America. The members of the Leftist-Islamist-Globalist Alliance headed by Alexandria Octavio-Cortes and Ilhan Omar, found it difficult to resist the BLM argument that if a State could throw off American sovereignty, then BLM could do the same and withdraw from the State and assume sovereignty in largely black areas of these large cities. So AOC and Omar became heads of the CSA as joint presidents, until AOC’s tragic death, when she was assassinated by an Asian man, whose name was withheld, giving Omar sole power, which she exercised on behalf of the Muslim Brotherhood.

Historians will forever discuss whether the end came because of the offers by each side to discontinue the treason trials against the leaders of the other side, or because of the bio-weapons. In any event the parties accepted the offer of mediation by Prime Ministers of Britain, Turkey, Canada, and the new Islamic Republic of France. With so many people sick from the new coronavirus attack by North Korea, and the economy in utter collapse, it was possible to settle the matter. The major stumbling block seemed to be the prosecutions of Schiff, Comey, Brennan, Strzok, Clapper, and other “deep staters”, and the division of military assets. In the end, the mediation succeeded in having all branches of the military and all weapons split in half with the Joint Chiefs of Staff having representation from both sides. The prosecutions of Schiff and the others were discontinued and they were paid damages of $1 million each, in the NAC (New American Currency) which had replaced in the CSA the nearly worthless American dollar.

The division was between the Coastal States of America (C.S.A.) and the Middle States of America (M.S.A.) and the Black Lives Districts (BLD).

The C.S.A. was composed of: California, Oregon, Washington, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, Hawaii, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Pennsylvania stayed in dispute as rural militias continued to attack Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, and eventually that state was partitioned. Much the same happened between Chicago and the rest of Illinois.

After a few years, China had purchased so many businesses in the C.S.A., detractors would call the C.S.A. the “Chinese States of America” and the citizens of the C.S.A. would argue that just because they had decided to have computer chips inbedded in their arms didn’t mean that they were slaves to China; at last their government agreed that any criticism of China was “racist and xenophobic”.

The M.S.A. was composed of all the rest of the states. Washington D.C. had been mostly destroyed as, under the cover of giving it Statehood, Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam was given full authority in D.C.

Islamists took the opportunity to attack while America was in a state of civil war. Iranian supplied nuclear-tipped missiles had been fired at the Museums and other Washington important sites. Those areas that were not destroyed or poisoned with radiation were given over to the growing number of homeless, except for the White House which became a mosque and the Capitol building which became a madrassa. The White House was given a gold minaret with some of the gold that has been seized from Fort Knox in Kentucky before the invading Islamists were driven back.

The Supreme Court before it was split between the two countries, in its final decision as one court, decided by a vote of 14 to 5, that a proper interpretation of the First Amendment that Congress make no law respecting an establishment of religion, did not apply to Islam, which later came to dominate both the CSA and BLM .

The CSA rejected the existing Constitution while the MSA retained it. In Congress, Nancy Pelosi took out a scissors and cut up the Constitutional document to the applause of the CSA members.

  1. Fortunately, the situation was settled to everyone’s dissatisfaction by Patagonia’s exploding 11 electromagnetic pulse devices across the planet, thereby destroying all electric systems. The new ‘reductio ad primitivism’ was hailed by the Perversives (inheritors of the Progressives) as a welcome step forward into the past and a hop, skip and jump back into the future. Cannibalizing of politicians was was the diet of the day, until humanity which had genetically retrograded to tardigrade status, got all fed up with the Boke* Woke folk.

  2. this may be the most unfortunate, self-indulgent, and grossly incendiary thing I’ve ever seen in this online journal. it’s much more then simply negative- it paints a completly tragic and disgusting picture of the near future. one has the feeling that only those who have given up would write such a gross piece as this. I’m sorry very much to see such a piece as this in ner. people who have lost hope write such things and applaud such awful characterizations of the future of the greatest country on the planet. readers need indulgent, cynical articles like this as much as they need a third armpit. very sad.

  3. @dan — I read the original article as a warning, in political/societal science-fiction form. Would you assess the book ‘1984’ as unsuitable for original publication in NER? //. My previous comment was provided as ridiculing satire on the use of the ‘stinkin thinkin’ NewSpeak warped word meanings such as ‘Progressive.’ Further, the cannabilizing of justly maligned politicians was to imply justice applied to the vulture-culture of what I call the Boke Woke Folk. Boke , combining Japanese and Western definitions yields ‘sickeningly stupid.’ //. The currently accepted stupidification of our society, grade school through college, and MSM Mean Spirited Media composed by ignor-anuses are implied targets for shame and blame. //. Your insensitivity to these possibilities and issues are understandable but, in an educated adult, unforgivable unless considered for correction. Blessings.

  4. This is a fine piece of science fiction. SCI FI although it is about the future it usually a consciously exaggerated picture of the present. For those familiar with the genre they will realize that Rotberg is talking about the present- a rupture between a European Unionized coast and a Constitutionally American interior. Whatever happens these kinds of structural oppositions have truth and weight. Rotberg’s piece asks us to be watchful. It is not a Marvel comic.

  5. an author cannot escape legitimate criticism simply because some readers assert that the supposed genre provides the author with carte blanche because it doesn’t. readers need this sort of indulgent negativity that proposes that we are on the edge of civil war and goes into great detail about how it will all play out? no. readers need this sort of “warning” because they are unaware of our present dangers without it so that therefore this awful piece is not a failure at all but rather a service? uh uh.
the article is grotesque AND pompous which is something of an artistic accomplishment. i wish I’d not read this piece because i need this sort of intellectual junk added to all the other garbage i read in the fake news as much as i need a bag of covid cake.
