The Islamic State And How It Grew

One analysis offered by a former member of Al Qaeda here.

Since Aidan Dean is speaking in Qatar, it is understandable that, even if he grasps just how closely the Islamic State follows what can be found in Qur’an, Hadith, and Sira, he still must avoid saying it, and the resentment of Muslims that he describes could also be presented as the result of Muslims knowing that they should be on top, and finding that, especially in the Western world where Muslims have been permitted to settle, they do not, and that the generay miserable condition of Muslims is a result of Islam itself which means that the Islamic State will always be attractive and have many recruits — will do so even if this particular avatar of the Caliphate is destroyed through militarily means. The desire, the idea, the ideal, has a renewed life of its own.
