The words “Islam” and “Muslim” are not mentioned. But the town is Roubaix. The identity of those who drove the Godefroy family out of their home, through threats and daily attacks (slashing tires, menacing the father, and so on), will be  clear to every French reader. As Andre Bercoff says, this French family’s is one among so many subject to such bullying and menacing (“harcelement”). And the authorities in Roubaix, as elsewhere in France, do nothing to go after those who made life hell for the Godefroys and, in ordery to justify their inaction — or rather, the action they take is to allow the family to be forced out — explain primly that one should not exaggerate the problem.
