US blows lid on UN ‘replacement’ plot to stop illegal migrants being deported from Britain

The Trump administration has accused the UN of a “replacement migration” plot to stop illegal migrants being deported from Britain.

The State Department – led by Marco Rubio – has confirmed that Washington refused to back the UN’s review of the Global Compact on Migration (GCM). The GCM serves as the main international framework for “managing” migration, with implementation progress evaluated every four years.

The State Department said it objects to the blueprint, hitting out at “UN efforts to facilitate replacement migration to the United States and our Western allies”. The department directly accused UN agencies of “systematically facilitating” mass migration into America and Europe – while citizens voted for the opposite.

It also poured scorn on renewed UN efforts to expand migration pathways and pursue the “regularisation” of migrants. “UN agencies – working with the NGOs they fund – established a migration corridor through Central America and to the US border,” the State Department said.

The Trump administration also put the spotlight on the UN’s role in mass migration into Europe, noting that officials from the international organisation had “staffed all ends of the Mediterranean migration route” and condemned those who did not open their borders.

Turning its attention to Britain, the State Department attacked plans to deport migrants who had poured into the country via small boat. It accused UN officials of “lobbying aviation regulators to prevent the deportation of migrants” from Britain.

Mr Rubio’s department branded the move “an appalling violation of the UK’s national sovereignty”.
