Victorious Leeds Green Party councillor shouts ‘Allahu Akbar’ after ‘win for Gaza’

Labour loses votes to Muslims standing for small parties.

I have been looking at a few of these this afternoon but now the Telegraph has saved me a job by collating some of them

A Green Party candidate shouted “Allahu Akbar!” after being elected to Leeds city council, while his supporters unfurled a Palestinian flag behind him.

I found the video on the 5 Pillarz facebook page, but it wouldn’t embed. 5 Pillarz are very happy both with this and Sadiq Khan’s re-election as Grand Vizier for London. Well, they would be, wouldn’t they.

Mothin Ali, who won the Gipton and Harehills seat with 3,070 votes, said his election to the council was a “win for the people of Gaza”.

Delivering a victory speech after the result was announced, he said people are “fed up” of being “let down” by a Labour council and concluded by saying: “We will not be silenced. We will raise the voice of Gaza. We will raise the voice of Palestine. Allahu Akbar!”

In Walsall, Naheed Zohra Gultasib has held her seat in the Pleck ward. She was one of six Walsall Labour councillors who quit the party in November over Sir Keir Starmer’s refusal to back a ceasefire in Gaza.“This is for Gaza, this is for Palestine,” Gultasib said in her victory speech, to cheers and chants, as well as murmurs of discontent. “You showed [Labour] that they cannot take your vote for granted.”

Akhmed Yakoob, a pro-Palestinian independent candidate running for West Midlands mayor, secured nearly 20 per cent of the vote in Birmingham which one of the seven areas which make up the combined authority.

Across the country, Labour support plummeted in areas with a high Muslim population, analysis by The Telegraph has found.

In Greater Bradford the Ilkley Gazette reports Labour keep control – but Independents make huge splash

LABOUR may have retained control of Bradford Council in this week’s local elections, but the big story was the huge number of independent candidates winning seats – with some unseating prominent Councillors. Independents won in many of Bradford’s inner-city wards, capitalising on dissatisfaction with how the national Labour party has handled the war in Gaza. After the count, 13 seats in the Council chamber now belong to Independents – meaning they have as many seats as the Conservatives in Bradford.

Ilkley is one of a number of Yorkshire towns that remain traditionally English, but because of the way boundaries were redrawn a few years ago they are governed by central Bradford, an area 30+% Muslim. I see a comment saying Ilkley needs to ceed from greater Bradford. I hear this in those bits of east London that  were historically Essex. Likewise in nice towns attached to greater Manchester that are historically Cheshire. But they want the rates and taxes of these hard-working areas. But I digress. Here ‘Independents’ of Gaza Bradford  celebrate victory

I fear that journalist Dave Atherton’s analysis is correct.

analysis focused on wards in council areas with the highest proportion of Muslim voters – Blackburn, Bradford, Pendle, Oldham and Manchester – showed Labour support dropped by an average of 25 points. Note the names of the towns, familiar for their grooming gangs and the trials convicting them.

Sir Keir Starmer faced calls to make a series of policy changes to win back the trust of Muslim voters. It is understood that members of his shadow Cabinet intend to raise the issue with him in the coming days.

Ali Milani, national chair of Labour Muslim Network, said: “There is no question now that Muslim communities’ concerns and anger is translating into real votes. . . The Labour Party has to support calls for an immediate arms embargo and support the ICC investigation into war crimes – make it clear that we respect and accept their judgements. We have to show we are taking Islamophobia seriously, in legislation and in our own party structures.”

I fear that the green of the Green party is now the green of the holy flag of Islam, not of environmentalism

  1. We have to hope that Starmer will hold the line on Gaza and in his party generally. Labour doesn’t need the Muslim vote to win the election as the right is so divided between hopeless Tories and untried Reform.

Because of our first past the post system, we are a long way off from seeing a Muslim party in Parliament. The real danger is the new definition of Islamophobia Labour are promoting. According to this, such is the way things have been going for years, any criticism of Muslims or Islam will attract a police investigation even when there is no prospect of prosecution.

This is the way the sharia will be enforced in the UK.

  2. Unfortunately, our stupidity re self and societal protection is not an ideological matter since it’s beyond belief.
