Billy Bragg, for those not familiar with his nasal drone is a champagne socialist ‘folk’ singer, who styles himself The Bard of Barking. He was indeed born in Barking east London which he left, but he returns if needed to berate his former neighbours for daring to be concerned at the demographic change that has turned the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham (where I used to live) from 80% white British in 2001 to 30% in 2021.
