Why Walid Phares? Because those COEXIST stickers didn’t work in Lebanon

As soon as Walid Phares was named an advisor to Trump on foreign policy, Mother Jones leapt into action and re-warmed the smear article they previously published in 2011 when he was named as an advisor to Mitt Romney. Phares is accused of the inexcusable crime of having worked to defend his ancient Christian community in Lebanon after they were abandoned by “the international community” and the beautiful old city of Beirut was turned into a pile of rubble by jihadist violence. Remember, the civil war in Lebanon was sparked by a sudden influx of Palestinian migrants who had been expelled from Jordan for causing civil conflict there.

Once it was taken for granted that the US fought to defend “our Republic, our religion and our civilization.” For Mother Jones, these sentiments are anathema. Defend Christianity? You must be joking.

However, Donald Trump has publicly stated his desire to defend Christianity, both here and abroad. This alone makes him a pariah to the left, but it makes his appointment of Phares all the more important.
