  1. It might be good, right about now, to read some G K Chesterton.

He says somewhere ( I am paraphrasing, not quoting verbatim) that there is a game that humanity loves to play, called “cheat the prophet”. That is: they listen nicely to all the prophecies that the pundits and other worthies propound; and then they go off and do something else entirely.

Well, to me the appearance of Trump on the scene suggests that the section of humanity that is the great unwashed American public might just be preparing to play that simple game of “cheat the prophet”. Or should it perhaps be called “cheat the Prophet”??

  2. Indeed, CM. American may cheat the prophet this year, strip him to his loincloth, and flog him to a bloody pulp. Everyman, in these parts known as “Joe Sixpack,” has his knickers in a knot. When the dust settles next November, the ghost of Andrew Jackson may throw a lawn party at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Prophesy is one of those occupations where practitioners know nothing about the future, yet presume to write on that blank slate anyway. In America, this might be the year when bookies take a bath. Merry Christmas and a Blessed New year.
