A YouTuber accused of threatening to cut Tommy Robinson’s ‘neck off’, (and) who ‘ranted about Prince William,’ in a series of homemade videos was released on bail ahead of his trial in December.
Muhammad Abdul Basir, 24, talked about attacking the former English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. Basir, who lives with his parents, in Mitcham, South London, allegedly discussed cutting Robinson’s ‘neck off’ in a homemade video titled ‘Tommy Robinson Abdul Basir 5’
(He) is charged with stalking Robinson between September 13 and 19, last year, causing serious alarm or distress by posting YouTube videos on September 13 and 16 last year. He is also charged with racially aggravated stalking of Robinson between the same dates by causing fear that violence would be used against him.
Mr Justice Edis set a trial date of December 14 and the next hearing will be on September 28.
Timothy Sligh-Johnson, defending said: ‘I have concerns around fitness to plea and therefore I would ask arraignment be delayed for a report to be prepared by those instructing me.’
The court was told Basir could face a trial of issue on December 14 if the report find him unable to enter a plea. Wearing a grey suit jacket and dark trousers Basir spoke to confirm his name at the Old Bailey.
