Amjad Hussain, of Keighley, jailed for 12 years for rape of girl

From local Yorkshire newspaper the Telegraph and Argus and the BBC

Amjad Hussain, 35, was one of five men found guilty of grooming and sexually abusing the complainant following a lengthy trial at Bradford Crown Court last October.

The four other men were given individual jail sentences totalling almost 50 years at a sentence hearing last month, but Hussain’s sentence was only imposed today.

Hussain, of Adar Street, Keighley, was found guilty of two specific rape charges and a further offence relating to “multiple incident rapes”.

The court heard that the complainant, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, had been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and Judge Andrew Hatton said she had been an extremely troubled and tormented young woman.

The judge said her victim impact statement made deeply unpleasant reading and she was now a woman with significant mental health difficulties.

Hussain drove the victim to remote locations where he plied her with alcohol then attacked her. The judge added that it was apparent from the evidence that Hussain would be responsible for “passing on” the teenager to other men.

Hussain will serve at least two thirds of his sentence and must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Det Ch Insp Alan Weekes, of West Yorkshire Police, previously praised the victim for reporting the offences to the police.

In other rape and prostitution gang news the trial of seven (later increased to eight) men at the Crown Court Worcester started in January. Progress  was not reported by the press (a reporting restriction is the norm these days, and to be fair, there is sometimes a VERY good reason for such.  But its blanket use will and does give rise to fears of an establishment cover-up), the court listing websites were vague about developments and the case left the lists last month.  I keep alert for news, but it may not be reported in any medium I have access to.

Then within the last two weeks this trial of 10 men with names suggesting heritage of Nepal, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Germany and Islamic lands started at the Crown Court Southwark on Monday 28th February. The men were from addresses all over England, but the offences took place in Kent, specifically Canterbury and Folkstone.  Regular readers will know that I am especially alert to whatever is happening in London and the near area as it isn’t following the same pattern as towns in the midlands and the north.  Again the trial was not reported after the 28th until yesterday (15th march) when Kent on Line was able to inform the public that on the second day (Tuesday 1st March) the prosecution dropped the case and the Judge had no alternative than to declare the men not guilty. They walked free. Keeping a concerned public in the dark does the authorities no good. We assume the worst (a conspiracy of cover-up and corruption) and what is there to say that we are wrong?
