Left to themselves, especially as more “normal” hostilities dissolve into a full-blown regional chaos, Israel’s adversaries could drive the Jewish state toward an unconventional war. This fateful endangerment could be produced singly or collaboratively, by deliberate enemy intent or by the “collateral damage” of sectarian strife. Mass counts, yes. And that is why Israel should NEVER have been forced to give up the Sinai: a vast mountainous region within which underground shelters, for example, could have been constructed. What also counts is military high ground. It is why the Golan Heights are so important, and Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives, and the hills of Judea and Samaria, and the Jordan Rift Valley. Israel must NOT give up control of one square inch of the aforesaid. The hills of Judea and Samaria are crucial places of shelter and refuge; they are a natural fortress in more ways than one. I am against the giving up of any territory at all to the Muslims; indeed, in the long run, for Israel to be defensible, the Mohammedan Fifth Column will have to be evicted from all parts of Israel (including Judea and Samaria). The Christians and Druze and Samaritans can remain (so long as a major effort is used to de-dhimmi them); but not the Muslims, for the jihad crystallises perpetually and naturally out of the Ummah or Mohammedan Mob. It would be a good start if the Mob were kicked right off the Temple Mount, the mosques there demolished stone by stone, and Jewish sovereignty and control over that most sacred of Jewish sites unapologetically asserted and exercised. Hebron, too, with the Cave of the Patriarchs. And the Tomb of Rachel. And the Mount of Olives Jewish cemetery. Jews – whether from Israel or diaspora – should be able to visit those sites in absolute safety at any time of the day or night, 365 days a year. If they are not, whatever has to be done to make it so, must be done. And if all essential services within Israel have not been EMP-hardened by now, they *ought* to be, ASAP. That’s my ten cents, as a non-Jewish Aussie Christian. Beyond that…to paraphrase the translation of the beautiful Krias Shema as given in one of Chaim Potok’s novels: “In the Name of the LORD, the G-d of Israel: May Michael be at your right hand, Gabriel at your left, before you, Uriel, behind you, Raphael, and above your head the divine Presence of G-d.” And Psalm 121. And Psalm 91.
Amen, Christina. When Jerusalem was retaken, the mosque should have been demolished. Wars have consequences. A third Jewish temple would be a victory for justice. A mosque on the same site is just another excuse for religious fraud, imperialism, and terror.
