Russian police deactivate explosive device as three arrested ‘over St Petersburg Metro bombing’

From the London Evening Standard

Police in Russia have arrested three people over the deadly St Petersburg Metro bombing.

On Thursday a loud blast was heard at the block of flats where the trio lived, after police found and deactivated an explosive device in one of the apartments.

The three people who have been detained are all suspected to have links to the suicide bomber thought to be behind this week’s subway attack. Russia’s top criminal investigation agency said the three suspects are all from the same region as the attacker – the Soviet Central Asia area.

The Federal Security Service said in a statement that its experts defused a self-made explosive device at the apartment.

Investigators are thought to be checking whether Dzhalilov may have trained with the Islamic State group.
