Stephen Salaita’s Lawsuit, And His Divine Right To Being Hired For A Tenured Job

Here.

He’s all for his “free speech” but not, apparently, for the “free speech” of those who, having donated to the University of Illinois, expressed their dismay at his possibly being hired to teach, not Native American Studies, but Palestinian propaganda, Jihad-against-Israel “studies,”at that university, by likening the “Palestinian plight” (plight! plight!) as being just like what happened to Native Americans. That, after all, has been Stephen Salaita’s sole pseudo-contribution to Native American studies, for he has no real interest in Native Americans. His thesis director having moved to the University of Illinois, became the head of its Department of Native American Studies, and “after a nation-wide search” hired his former graduate student, Stephen Salaita.

Quaere: If Stephen Salaita possesses any academic merit other than what is detectable by his friend and former thesis adviser, the man who offered him the tenure job that the university administration refused to ratify (as it had every right to do), why then has his former department not made the slightest effort to hire him back? Why has no other department, anywhere in the country, or in the world, not wanted to hire someone, even without tenure, of such obvious academic excellence, or was that excellence obvious only to his former thesis advisor and friend, who just happened to be the chairman of the Native Ameican Studies Department, whose colleagues were not in any mood to cross?
